LOS ANGELES—Matthew Libatique is quite possibly the top Filipino-American creative talent working behind the scenes in the US film industry today. At 42, the cinematographer, who traces his family roots to Pangasinan and Quezon, has chalked up major film credits, including the two “Iron Man” movies directed by Jon Favreau.
The lensman, whom friends and colleagues call Matty, shot “Black Swan,” a strong contender in this awards season and his latest collaboration with director Darren Aronofsky since “Requiem for a Dream,” “The Fountain,” “Pi” and “Protozoa,” a short film from their American Film Institute (AFI) graduate student days.
